I am a small town, Southern girl born and raised in Mississippi, living in Alabama with my husband. We have 5 kids, 4 of which are now grown and out of the house.
I spent most every summer hanging around my grandparent’s general store in a rural town in south central Mississippi with my 2 brothers because our dad’s sign painting shop was attached to their store. Here I was exposed to my dad’s artistic talents, who not only painted nearly every sign in that little town, but he was also an accomplished oil painter and painted many lovely paintings over the years, some of which made me blush during my teen years. He was an artist and artists have been known to paint nudes. My granddad was also a big influence with his talent for crafting and creating things out of the most mundane objects, which we now call repurposing and upcycling. All of this eventually led to an interest in interior design and this little southern country girl who could run barefoot across gravel on a dirt road without batting an eyelash (but occasionally there was a scent knee, if not two scent knees), but ultimately it led me to go off to college and get a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. There I learned a bit more about refinishing furniture and thus began my love for painting, refinishing furniture and creating faux finishes. My desire to save old furniture was born out of necessity, having a small budget back then, but the desire remains to this day.
Paint and finishing furniture sure has come a long way since my college days and my love for painting has grown right along with it. Learning to appreciate these changes, while remembering what preceded the changes is important because being able to utilize both to create a unique and authentic finish that is also durable and lasting in beauty is what I aspire to achieve. Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint, a Chalk and Clay Paint, is highly pigmented and covers anything! On top of that, it is all natural and eco-friendly, it's an American owned company and is made right here in the good Ole U. S. A. It doesn't get any better than that!!
